In 2015 Appletree Design teamed up with The Gourmet Kitchen Company and we were able to add a new dimension to our design services. Specialising in Shaker kitchens and other custom-made cabinetry. It’s no surprise the understated elegance and timeless look of the shaker style has stood the test of time. From large traditional family kitchens to boutique design, every Shaker kitchen we create is bespoke and incorporates beautiful simplicity and refined craftsmanship.

TIMBER SHAKER KITCHENS
Our Shaker kitchens are created using only the finest materials and classic Shaker elements that define its signature style. The sleek and simplicity of wooden Shaker kitchens continue to make them a popular choice. The beauty of this kitchen is it can be stripped back and made to look modern or have added embellishments to give a more traditional finish. Our hardware of choice is Blum - a premium European kitchen hardware. A combination of hardwoods and plywood are used to create all of our beautiful Shaker kitchens. All of our kitchens are thoughtfully designed to our clients’ personal taste.
Bathroom vanities
TIMBER BATHROOM VANITIES
Why not add sophistication and value to your home with a custom-made bathroom vanity? We offer multiple options for bathroom vanities and can advise on which might work best for your space and personal taste. Our vanities are constructed from hardwood and plywood. You can choose the style, storage you need and finish you would like to create a beautiful point of difference in your bathroom. These can be painted or stained in your colour of choice depending on the look you are after.
French feature doors
Internal feature doors, like French feature doors, are both functional and stylish, quickly becoming a popular choice. Thoughtfully designed internal doors have the power to transform a space, adding a sense of sophistication and individuality.
I love incorporating feature doors into lounges or ensuites to elevate the overall look and feel. Our custom-made barn doors, crafted with authentic accents, bring a distinctive design element to your home.

To complete a space, we offer tailor-made furniture and furnishings using the highest quality materials. Our bespoke wooden furniture is designed to our clients’ specifications and we provide a complete service through design, manufacture and installation.
Questions
What is the process if we want to get a kitchen through Appletree Designs?
We start with an initial consultation to get a feel for the style and function of the kitchen you have in mind, including the appliances you want to include. We then begin the process with hand drawings and a quotation. There is a design fee of $1500 plus gst (additional design fees will apply for other areas requiring custom designs, e.g., bars, sculleries, wardrobes - please ask for a quote). Once the quote is accepted and deposits received, we move on to full CAD drawings.
How long does it take to design and build a custom kitchen?
The initial design phase for a kitchen is usually 2-4 weeks, depending on the number of changes made. From the date of sign off it takes around 4 months for manufacture and delivery of a Shaker kitchen. Please note: due to shipping delays these times can sometimes push out further.
What are your kitchens made of?
Our biggest point of difference is our Shaker kitchens are made of timber, using a combination of hardwood and plywood. These are then painted with a two pot lacquer painting system or stained depending on our clients’ personal taste.
Can you design a kitchen off a floor plan?
Yes, we can. However a site measure is required to action a kitchen project.
Do you offer a kitchen installation service, or do you work with other tradespeople?
We have our own team of experienced installers to take care of this for you. We also offer a supply-only model, which can help people save money if they wish to install the items themselves. This is great for jobs outside the lower North Island area. Please ask.
Do you have a range of pre-made kitchen units or is everything custom designed and made?
All of our Shaker kitchens are bespoke and designed specifically for each client and their space.
